Kukke Shri Subramanya Temple

Among 7 mukti-sthalas of Karnataka, Kukke Shri Subrahmanya is one of the most visited temples, by thousands of devotees. Nestled in the beautiful environment of Western Ghats, Kukke is considered to be recovered from the sea by the Great Parusurama. Pilgrims throng this temple to get rid of kalasarpa (evil effects that causes pain and misfortune) dosha in life. 

Government Accommodation

Kukke Subramanya temple devasthanam provides decent accommodation at reasonable price. Temple management offers guesthouses in the name of Ashlesha, Karthikeyakripa, Akshara, Skandakripa and number of choultries at basic prices. Government cottages are available from Rs.205 per day and lies very near to temple. Hundreds of spacious rooms are available in these cottages for the benefit of pilgrims. 

Pilgrims who wish to perform Ashlesha pooja are given preference in these guesthouses. Since it is a 2 day ritual, devotees can book for Seva online and show the e-ticket for getting available rooms. 

Online booking is not available for government guesthouse and you can book rooms on arrival.

Significance

Temple is situated in the range of Kumara Parvatha Mountain and is close to Kumara Dhara River. Vasuki and Adhisesha present here are believed to remove the bad effects of Sarpa dosha of the devotees. Kukke temple is famous for pooja rituals related to Naga (snake) dosha and each day thousands of pilgrims gather here to perform Ashlesha Bali and Sarpa Samskara pooja. 

 This holy temple is also known as Gupta shethra (which is hidden). Vasuki is believed to reside here along side of Devasena (Lord Subramanya’s wife) as divine power. Lord resides in this temple in the form of snake. 

Kukke Subramanya Temple is quite famous for removing Naga dosha and to heal skin related problems. 

How Old Is The Temple?

Kukke Temple is considered to be built during 9th century AD and anecdotes about this temple is mentioned in Shankara Vijayam written by Sri Shankara .

Prasada

Mrithika (soil) prasadam is available in the north-east corner of this temple. You can find a anthills and snake pits within the shrine which is considered to cure all kinds of skin problems. You can mix little of Mrithika prasadam in a glass of water and consume it for a week for healing of skin diseases. 

Annaprasada

Devotees can have annaprasada from 12.30 to 1.30 PM daily.

Entrance

Main entrance of Kukke Subramanya temple is west facing. For reaching east facing entrance, you need to go around the shrine. 

Sarpa Samskara is conducted every day in this temple excepting Ekadashi and Dwadashi. 

Darshan Tickets

Devotees are not charged anything for having Darshan of the deity. It is free Darshan for all pilgrims

In case you have visited without planning for pooja, make reservation for pooja in the temple counter. Hence both offline and online booking is possible for performing Pooja and Sevas.

Kukke Shri Subramanya Temple Dress Code

Any decent outfit is allowed for entering the temple and having Darshan. However pilgrims who wish to perform special poojas or Sevas will have to follow the dress code laid down by the temple. Male pilgrims should remove shirts or upper clothing before performing pooja. Women can wear saree or Salwar Kameez with duppatta for doing pooja. 

What Is Not Allowed?

One should not wear overcoat, hat, shorts, lungi, turbans or Bermudas while entering the temple premises. Women are not supposed to wear revealing clothes of Western culture.

Kukke Subramanya Temple is well connected by roadways, railways and airways.

By Air

Mangalore airport is just 110 KM from this temple. You can take a cab for reaching temple within a couple of hours. Plenty of buses are available from airport to reach Kukke Temple.

By Train 

Nearest railway station from temple is Subramanya Road SBHR. It is just 12 KM from this station and you can comfortably take auto or bus to reach Kukke Temple. Two superfast trains Panchaganga Express starts from KSR Bengaluru Junction and reach Subramanya Road station in 7 hours. In addition to express train, many places of Karnataka are well connected to Kukke Subramanya Road SBHR.

By Road

Plenty of buses are available from Mangalore, Mysuru and Bengaluru to reach this temple. Several private buses and KSRTC buses connects various parts of Karnataka to Kukke Temple. 

Mangalore bus stand is 105 KM, Mysuru bus stand is 168 KM and Benguluru is about 8 hours of travel from Kukke Subramanya Temple. 

Pilgrims can also make use of Sakleshpur bus depot where plenty of direct buses are available to reach temple.
