Significance

Rahu kalam and yamangandam are considered inauspicious in Hindu religion. Many people are scared of it even now. Among the 9 planets in solar system, Rahu is known as shadow planet and is the tricky one. This is indeed responsible for one’s mental well being. Gambling, illegal activities and money obtained from uncertain means belong to the power of planet Dragon head or Rahu. Laziness, undue delay in works is due to the effect of Rahu. This planet remains in one zodiac sign for a period of 18 months. After 18 years, it comes back to the same zodiac sign. Thus it revolves in all the zodiac signs uniformly.

 The adverse effect of this planet can be even more powerful when this gets paired with Mars.

Rahu is not responsible for causing only ill effect. What Is Yamakandam?

The word “kandam” in Tamil denotes danger and Yamakandam is a period of 90 minutes in a day in which no auspicious things can be done. Generally people avoid performing pooja rituals during this period. It is strongly believed that any good activity done during this hour can bring ill effect and destroy the end product of the work. Like Rahu Kaal, Yamakandam is the period which people are scared to do any good things and rituals. 

The planet Ketu represents the tail portion of a snake whereas Rahu represents head portion of snake. Timings of both these planets may vary slightly depending on the sunrise timing. In Hindu mythology Lord Yama is the God of Death and hence Yamakandam period is called death time. Hence it is better to avoid any auspicious activities during this time. Avoid starting any new business or new travel related activities during Yamakandam. Funeral ceremonies can be done during this time. 

Tips To Prevent Ill Effects

  • Plenty of remedies are available to minimize the bad effects of Rahu and Ketu. 
  • You can worship Lord Shiva or pray to your family God to reduce the bad spell of these grahas. 
  • Donate food to the needy and poor.
  • Consider donating blankets and rice to Brahmins.
  • You can visit “Rahusthalam” and “Ketusthalam” near Kumbakonam of Tamilnadu. 
  • You can go to the nearest Navagraha temple to light a lamp and offer prayers to these planets.

Kuligai Timing Significance

Kuligai is considered to be son of Planet Saturn or Shanigraha. This period remains for 90 minutes in each day and one can do auspicious activities during Kuligaikalam. However it is believed to avoid doing death related rituals during this period since it may happen again in your house. You can avoid performing death rites during this hour. 

Any act (good or bad) done during this time can repeat again. On this aspect Kuligaikalam is the best for auspicious acts like starting a business or laying foundation stone for house etc., but avoid starting with new medications since it can likely continue in your life. Similarly don’t obtain loans, or mortgage your property or vacating your house during Kuligaikalam.
