Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple

Padmavathi Ammavari temple is the place where Goddess Padmavathi Devi resides. This temple is popularly known as Alamelumangapuram (means the Goddess who incarnated on the top of lotus) or Tiruchanoor. It is 5KM from Tirupati and thousands of pilgrims would first visit the Goddess Padmavathi before visiting Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala.

History

According to popular belief, Goddess Padmavathi was born to Akasharaja, who was then ruling this region. The king subsequently arranged for the wedding of Lord Venkateswara with Alamelu (Goddess Padmavathi). It was said that the Lord was undergoing punishment for 12 years, when the Goddess appeared in golden lotus in Padmasarovaram (holy tank) and blessed him with wealth before wedding him.
